Steps to the basement, leaving the bustle of Akasaka behind.
A sanctuary for adults to lose themselves in the rhythm of the night.
Just a few minutes from the bustling intersection of Akasaka-mitsuke. The moment you open the heavy door in the building's basement, the clock of the outside world stops.
What awaits you is a carefully crafted "darkness" and "music" that touch the soul. Leave your professional titles and daily burdens above ground. By the time your eyes adjust to the dim light, you will already be part of this space, like the protagonist of a film.
A name dedicated to two "Heroes."
The name "Luther" reflects the subtle yet passionate commitment of the owner, Miyazaki.
One is the "Velvet Voice" that defined the 80s, Luther Vandross. The other is the great man who preached love and equality, Martin Luther King Jr.
Admiration for a sexy, sweet singing voice, and deep respect for a soul that fought without violence. The spirit of this "Double Luther" is the very aesthetic of this bar. It is more than just a soul bar. It is a space for adults who love the history and culture behind the music.
A solid wood counter that marks the passage of time.
The centerpiece of the bar is a magnificent single-plank counter, reminiscent of a high-end sushi restaurant. Even the cracks that appeared as the wood dried are part of the history this establishment has built. In the dim lighting, only your hands holding the glass are beautifully illuminated.
The Warmth woven by analog records.
There are no digital playlists here. The music consists of analog records hand-picked by the owner, sensing the atmosphere of the moment. Centering on 70s and 80s Soul and Black Contemporary, mellow tracks known as "Quiet Storm" resonate gently from large speakers. Even the characteristic crackle of a record serves as an exquisite spice here.
Owner Miyazaki has a career spanning over 27 years, including his time as a bartender in Yokohama. There is no need to feel that the bar is intimidating.
With seasoned techniques, conversation kept at a respectful distance, and a musical selection that aligns with your mood, he creates an atmosphere of ease. We often hear from female guests that they feel safe visiting alone—a testament to the sense of security provided here. Whether you wish to converse with someone or immerse yourself in the music alone, you are the protagonist tonight.
